Tim Estes

Founder & CEO

Tim founded Digital Reasoning and built it into a leader in unstructured data analytics. Its technology became the standard for AI on communications data in financial services, and it supported work in defence, healthcare, and law enforcement. Digital Reasoning merged with Smarsh in 2020, after which he spent several years angel investing and advising. At AngelQ he leads the work on what AI should do when the user is a child.

Josh Thurman

Co-founder & COO

Josh served as a Navy SEAL officer, leading counterterrorism and hostage rescue missions across eleven deployments, and earned more than a dozen combat awards. He moved into technology in 2023 and co-founded AngelQ, where he runs product and operations.

Randi Schochet

Randi Schochet

Co-founder & CMO

Randi has led marketing for Fortune 100 companies and for high-growth technology companies, and has held CMO roles at fintech and AI companies. Her work is in multichannel programmes, and in the positioning that has to be right before any of them will pay.

Brian Broll

Brian Broll

Co-founder & technical advisor

Brian completed his Ph.D. in computer science at Vanderbilt in 2020 and a residency at Microsoft Research. His research covered model-integrated computing, AI and machine learning, and computer science education. He advises AngelQ on the technology.

Former CEO of Sesame Workshop, and a board member and venture partner. He has run digital, brand and content businesses across media, education, consumer products and live experiences.

Dr. Elizabeth Milovidov

Dr. Elizabeth Milovidov

Head of Parent Advocacy at Roblox. A California lawyer and Paris-based law professor who advises international organisations on digital safety policy, with trustee and advisory roles at child-safety organisations in the UK and the US.

Dr. Alok Kanojia

Dr. Alok Kanojia

President and cofounder of Healthy Gamer, and a Harvard-trained psychiatrist working on mental health for the digital generation. Healthy Gamer gives young people content, coaching, and a community to talk in.

A pediatric trauma surgeon and a board member of the Sandy Hook Promise, working on injury and harm prevention for children.

Founder of Protect Young Eyes and executive director of the PYE Foundation. He has testified before the US Senate, co-authored the Child Device Protection Bill, and spoken at the World Economic Forum.

Tim Estes was lead author of the declaration the industry is now measured against, and the AngelQ team is still pushing that policy forward. The National Declaration on AI and Kids' Safety was published on 12 May 2025, written with the Heat Initiative and the Social Media Victims Law Center. More than seventy organisations signed it, from the Heritage Foundation through Design It For Us.

2024

Supported and advocated for Kids Online Safety and other key regulations to protect kids. Tim's Newsweek op-ed that April argued AI would be to this generation what social media already was, and the coverage on Resources followed it.

2025
  • KidRails, an open-source guardrail framework for kids' chatbots, published with Arcee AI.
  • AngelQ approved for the youngest audiences in the App Store.
  • The team wrote the National Declaration on AI and Kids' Safety with the Heat Initiative and the Social Media Victims Law Center, and 70+ groups and leaders signed it.
  • KidSAFE certification.
  • First non-gaming app on k-ID Family Connect.
